Kahawa 1893's mission (Kahawa = coffee in Swahili; 1893 = year Kenya began growing coffee commercially) is to introduce amazing African coffee to the world, and empower the women farmers they work with. They source coffees directly from women farmers in Kenya and Rwanda, ensuring they are empowered and paid equitably. Kahawa 1893 was founded by Margaret Kemunto Nyamumbo, who grew up on her grandfather's coffee farm and witnessed the inequities amongst women in coffee production first hand. She decided one year to quit her career on Wall Street to create a way to support these women. Kahawa 1893 was born!
